Position Paper Rough Draft
Terrorism is a important matter for the committee to address because terrorism is going on everywhere around the world and it needs to come to a stop. As delegates of Egypt we believe that terrorism is a very important matter to discuss. Terrorism has affected Egypt a huge deal like in April and August, rockets were reportedly fired from the Sinai, striking in Jordan and Israel near the cities of Al Aqaba and Eilat, respectively.
In Egypt, there was a terrorist attack in April and August and rockets were fired on Jordan and Isreal. Terrorist organizations in the Egyptian Government sponsored a number of counter-radicalization programs, including a "revision and reintegration program" for members of Al-Gama'a Al-Islamiyya and Egyptian Islamic Jih. Over the past eight years, Egypt has tightened its terrorist finance regulations in keeping relevent UNSCRs. Egypt regularly informed its own financial institutions of any individual or entities that were designated by the UN 1267 sanctions commitee.ad who remained in detention in order to combat terrorism.

In Egypt, our country has taken the issue on a international level by Egypt actively participating in the Arab League's Counterterrorism Committee. The Egyptian Assistant Deputy Foreign Minister for Counterterrorism was elected chair of this Arab League committee in 2010. Egypt also assisted states in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia in building counterterrorism capacity. The Egyptian Government sponsored a number of counter-radicalization programs, including a "revision and reintegration program" for members of Al-Gama'a Al-Islamiyya and Egyptian Islamic Jihad who remained in detention.
The role that our country would like to see on international community to address the problem of terrorism is by having a goal to further encourage the renunciation of violence through interaction with Egypt's Islamic scholars at Al-Azhar. In addition, the Ministry of Awqaf (Endowments) issued guidance to imams throughout Egypt that included directions to avoid extremism in sermons. Egypt's Al-Azhar University cooperated with Cambridge University on a training program for imams that promoted moderate Islam, inter-faith cooperation, and human rights. Egypt’s recommendations onto best resolve this issue is by participating in committee’s and come as one with other countries to try and stop terrorism for good.
